Hearing it wrong means getting it right still needs to happen

A story at www.nhregister.com misquoted Board of Alderman President Jorge Perez, who was speaking during a meeting about Yale’s impact on New Haven.
Perez actually said “There was a time when people felt there was no concern but I believe the relationship is much better than before.”

Statement incorrectly attributed in Foxwoods story

A July 20 story in the Register about controversial comments attributed to Foxwoods CEO Scott Butera by the Boston Globe incorrectly attributed a comment to Butera that should have been attributed to the writer of the Globe story. According to the Globe story, Butera said Foxwoods can do without what the Globe termed those stereotypical busloads of senior citizens who show up with walkers and oxygen tanks.
“We’ve dropped a lot of that … not for humane reasons,” Butera was quoted as saying in the Globe story. The Globe’s reporter then wrote: It’s because those darn elders don’t gamble away enough of their money to help Foxwoods reach its goal, which at this point is basic survival.
The Globe did not attribute that statement to Butera.

Correction: UConn student organization incorrectly named

Based on information from a student organization leader and the University of Connecticut web site, a July 15 story on an East Haven student's experiences in Peru incorrectly reported that the organization was a student chapter of Doctors Without Borders. But Doctors Without Borders says that the organization never authorizes student organizations to use its name, nor does it facilitate or organize student trips abroad.

Lights, camera, wrong TV station

In a story published Monday online and Tuesday in the New Haven Register under the headline "Murphy: Bysiewicz ‘lying to voters’ in TV ad; TV stations say they can’t pull them," the job held by David Doebler was incorrectly reported.

He is, in fact, general manager of WVIT Channel 30, an NBC affiliate.

Giving credit where it's due

A story published on the website Tuesday about Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport incorrectly identified the company responsible for creating an application for iPhone and Android. ProDIGIQ, an information technology company from California, did so and is now creating an application for iPad, according to Tweed officials.

Bamboo times two

Stories are occasionally posted twice on our website.
This typically does not create a problem. But when there is a mistake in the story, that's not necessarily true.
A recent story about the town of Seymour looking into bamboo-controlling regulations did not contain the right date for an upcoming meeting about the issue.
It was corrected, but unfortunately not on both copies of the story.
Now both are good to go.
